Alfie and Sophie

Every year we are heart-warmed by people who donate toys for Christmas. Alfie and his siblings are just one family of hundreds who received a gift from the Christmas Appeal last year.

The Pastoral Team at one school told us the story of one of their nominated families which truly shows the impact the appeal has on real families.

“Alfie lives with his mum, a single parent, and his four siblings. The family have experienced significant domestic abuse and have had to flee on several occasions. Court orders are in place, and it is known that Alfie and his siblings have been present when the abuse has taken place. As a result, they are direct witnesses. The impact of which is still being realised.

Alfie’s school have worked to support the children in the family with emotional wellbeing. They have also supported Alfie’s mum to help her to keep her children safe as they move forward.

Strong working relationships have been forged by the pastoral team at school and the gifts from the Kids Inspire’s Christmas Appeal will play a part in giving Alfie, his siblings and his mum the Christmas they deserve after a difficult few years.”

We heard about Sophie’s experience after a local charity unexpectedly found out about her situation at home.

Sophie

“When I first met 13-year-old Sophie she seemed very low. She quickly told me about her home life and the lack of food that was available to her and her siblings. As a result, she was going into school hungry. I confirmed this with her school, who told me that Sophie often arrived without having eaten an evening or morning meal. The primary school that Sophie’s siblings attended, confirmed that this was the same for the younger children too.

Sophie’s mum struggles with her mental health and there seemed to be a case of neglect within the house. Sophie spoke to me about how there is very little money.

When I was informed about the amazing Christmas Appeal service I thought it would be lovely to help the children in whatever way I could so they could have a lovely Christmas.

Thank you to everyone who has gifted or donated.” - Family Health Care Officer

Real-life stories keep the Christmas donations coming in year after year, we honestly couldn’t do this without support from the local community. Thank you to each and everyone who chooses to get involved in the Christmas Appeal.
