2011’s Transition ‘Moving On Up’ Project
Another successful transition to secondary school
for local Year 6 pupils.Every child moving on from Primary to Secondary School has concerns about what might be different for them in their new school, and often parents/carers find this change equally hard to manage. Five local Primary Schools and Hylands School (secondary) worked with Kids Inspire, who provided a range of professionals to run our Transition Project for selected pupils, to support them in the change from primary to secondary education earlier this year. 46 children took part in the Project that saw them complete art activities, activities to improve their self esteem and yoga in eight weekly sessions. This helped the children, as a group, to discuss and overcome their various fears of attending a new school.
Smiling faces all round from the children that took part in this years project with the Mayor and deputy Mayor of Chelmsford and Kids Inspire staff.
The children were invited to The Mayor of Chelmsford’s Chambers to receive a certificate to mark their achievement along with a book prize that was donated by Waterstones Chelmsford. It was a wonderful occasion and some of the children stood up to talk about how great the project had been, and the ways in which it had helped them in their move. Local Head teacher from Hylands School, David Struthers congratulated the children on a fantastic start to the new academic year. The outcome of the project went to prove further that this, and other kinds of input from Kids Inspire is so valuable in making a real difference to those children and families that require some additional support. We really help to turn potentially difficult situations into positive learning experiences for those that really need us.
