OLYMPIC PHOTO CALL
Monday 28th November
Hundreds of students from four Chelmsford schools created a massive ‘human 2012’ to celebrate joining the Gold Challenge
Students welcome the Gold Challenge at New Hall School
As Olympic fever prepares to grip the UK, school pupils from Chelmsford could be among the first people in the country to get inside the Olympic Stadium. Schools across the town are joining forces to get involved with the games and raise money for KIDS INSPIRE.
Students from Chelmsford's New Hall, KEGS, Kings Road Primary, Westlands, Melbourne Park Primary and Lawford Mead schools have all signed up to the Gold Challenge, a unique, country wide scheme to engage young people in sport whilst raising money for charity. Students will pledge to do a certain amount of sport over the next few months and raise money, through sponsorship, in the process. The schools have all chosen to support local children’s charity Kids Inspire.
At New Hall School and KEGS each ‘house’ is promising to do 2012km of sport. At KEGS each house is trying to raise £2012 and at New Hall School even the Preparatory School is trying to raise £2012. Some of the students participating in the Gold Challenge will also get unique access to the Olympic stadium in London in April 2012, and attend a special ‘pre-Olympic event’ for 20,000 people.
Kids Inspire's Paula Ashfield says, “We’re so excited to be working with the Gold Challenge team and all these local schools. The money raised will make a huge difference to the work of Kids Inspire.” Katherine Jeffrey, Principal at New Hall School says, “We are delighted to host this special photo call to mark the start of this Olympic inspired initiative. Chelmsford schools are coming together in the name of sport to raise money for Kids Inspire and a number of special sporting events will take place over the next 12 months at New Hall School.”
